The Nuffield Foundation

Introduction to the GCSE course

Prawn fishermen on make-shift raft
Nuffield Economics and Business works best when it is delivered through active learning strategies. Students need to experience the decision-taking process in practical contexts. They must learn to support their conclusions with reasoned analysis and to recognise alternative perspectives.

The existing publications offer a wide range of classroom experiences. These can be supplemented with the use of the more recently created materials on this site.

  • Weblinks include links to sites likely to be useful for investigative work.
  • How to sheets provide hints on using the software.
  • Go to the Units section for relevant activities, case study updates and schemes of work.
  • Teacher support in the Assessment section has Unit tests, Revision Guides, coursework support and mock exam papers.
  • If you need an induction activity for new students in September, try the Virtual Business, Bath Aqua Blue. It is a very accessible tour of a small craft business which introduces some basic concepts. It was originally developed for GNVQ Part 1 but will work equally well for this course.
