Structure of the GCSE course

Fishmonger by David Wall
The GCSE course is built up around a series of questions, emphasising its investigative nature. At the outset, in Unit 1 'Make or Break' students are introduced to real-world businesses and markets in familiar, localised contexts.

Students think about the nature of enterprise and the reasons why some businesses succeed while others fail.

They learn the importance of markets and competition. As the course progresses, students encounter national and, increasingly, international contexts.

Students consider the role of governments and the EU, and address environmental issues.

See ‘Specification content’ on pages 9-20 of the Edexcel GCSE specification. It may be useful to give copies of these pages to students doing the course.
