GCSE examinations and coursework
Assessment from Edexcel
Papers 1 and 3: Foundation and Higher, Problem solving
Candidates read the evidence which is drawn from a range of sources. Structured questions require them to show how problems can be solved.
Papers 2 and 4: Foundation and Higher, Perspectives.
Evidence is provided, detailing differing perspectives on issues and events. Candidates must be able to identify points of view and the reasons for them, evaluate the evidence and draw conclusions.
Coursework consists of two pieces of portfolio work which are teacher assessed and externally moderated. These should be short (no more than 1000 words each). Often they will be related to a local issue. Students should select their own question for investigation, subject to guidelines.
