Notes on what will be available
Ian Marcousé is writing a new version of his popular Business Studies title, published by Hodder. This will cover the two Core units, 1 and 3, and the Business units, 2a and 4a. There will be some material that is relevant to Units 2b and 4b so this will be a very useful text. Publication date: July 2008.
Brian Ellis has already written a Unit 1 Guide, to be published by Philip Allan, which is similar in style to the guides written by Andrew Ashwin for the current Economics & Business Studies course. Publication date: September 2008.
A group of experienced teachers and examiners are negotiating with Anforme to produce texts for Units 2b and 4b. These will be similar in style to a textbook but will be produced as separate titles for ease of use and flexibility. They will be published ahead of the time when teaching of each unit starts. The Unit 2b text should be available by the end of November 2008 in time for teaching in the Spring term 2009.
The Nuffield Curriculum Centre will retain some existing activities on the website; these will be selected, updated and repurposed for the new course, with new teacher guidance to inform use. These resources will be ready by September 2008. They should complement the other resources that are being prepared. Should this website, www.necb.org be discontinued, these resources will be made available on another site.
Unit course guides will be added to this site. These will include schemes of work, reading lists for both students and teachers and advice about useful resources from a wide range of sources. These will appear ahead of the time when teaching starts, to allow teachers to prepare.
Edexcel
The Edexcel booklet 'Getting Started' has many good ideas. See the Tutor support material on Advanced GCE in Business & Economics if you do not already have it.
Edexcel are planning an electronic subscription service, details of which have been sent to all centres. This will provide a monthly collection of news briefings and student activities that will support the course.
Meanwhile email Ian Marcousé at Edexcel ian.marcouse@edexcel.org.uk
In summary
The level of resource support should actually improve on what is available now for the current course. So it should be possible to choose resources that appeal to you from a variety of sources.
